September for me is always a time of self-reflection. Perhaps because it's my birthday month.

With age comes making better decisions and letting go of bad choices.

Two things remain constant:

The love of my family.

And the worriment of my kids.

I'm such a broken record. However, I've learned to spread out the uneasiness in batches!

Last week, Truman went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios with his friends. Then took an Uber at 2:45 a.m. to L.A. to have a sleepover at Gino's home. Gino who? His home is where? I didn't sleep a wink.

The next day Ann took Gabby and I to Buenos Aires Grill where I could barely keep my eyes open.

Coincidentally there was dessert next door. Ann LOVES ice cream.

Giving them independence and freedom is tricky. Are they practicing safe online interactions? Should I be o.k. with them following this hideous teen trend of leaving the house in PJs?

I finally said yes to Presley wanting a perm.

While still begging Truman to cut his hair.

Perhaps the most interesting turn of events this month is Presley deciding not to try out for the basketball team but instead joining JROTC.

I got to see him perform at Homecoming.

I miss him in a basketball jersey.

But I sure love a young man in a beret and patent leather shoes.

Should I let his Armed Drill Team know that he still sleeps with his baby blanket?

Another trip around the sun makes me cherish relationships.

And hope for more meaning in my life.

The Huntington Botanical Gardens is good for the soul.

Pair it with afternoon tea at the historic Rose Garden Tea Room for complete tranquility.

The Japanese House!

Nature always has the right idea...

Which we carried out that evening at Anna's 50th birthday party!

My birthday flowers gave off Dr. Suess vibes.

David wore a bib on my birthday.

Does he expect me to wear a birthday suit on his birthday in November?
