A pandemic Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving at my sister's which included my dad, my brother's family and my sis-n-law's mom.  We've been each other's social pod during the pandemic still gathering for birthdays and even continued Halloween's tradition of dressing up, trick-or-treating and handing out candy.  Being with them helps ease my anxiety and overall pandemic stress.

The traditional feasting began with turkey, cranberry sauce, greens, and potatoes.

All the fixings that stirs up memories from my childhood.  Growing up, my mom's version of a Thanksgiving meal was a boiled whole chicken and Chinese stir-fry sides.  It wasn't traditional but it was cozy, comfort food.

I've always been lucky to grow up in a full house.

My parents were always hosting friends and cooking multi-course meals along side their mahjong and poker games.

They graciously welcomed anyone who needed a meal or place to sleep.

Being the youngest of three, I was never alone.  I always had someone to play with.

Our weekends were spent surrounded by aunties and uncles and childhood family friends.

My parents did not have it easy at times but they worked through the rough patches and stayed together.

They showed me life is about protecting your family, giving to others, and showing love without ever asking for anything in return.

Now that my sister, my brother and I have procreated, we get to pass down our childhood memories and experiences to our kids so they see the joy of always keeping family close.

I'm not gonna lie being home with them is madness.

But I'm enjoying the time we get to spend together.  It's a gift I can't take for granted.
