Happy juice & poison drip

What's your poison?

I'm behind in posting all things pumpkins and kids Halloween disguises from 2018.  That's right, two years ago! I found these photos on my phone when I was swifting through this years Halloween photos.  From what I remember I was really tired and there were no folding origami pineapple rinds or fitting into ramen bowl costumes like years before but I did manage to...

Halloween in a time of COVID-19

Halloween on a Saturday, full moon, and daylight saving time ending.  What an ideal weekend if only we weren't living in a time of COVID-19.  But in the Hui home it was business as usual: carving, candy, and chilling decorations.

Happy Halloween

diy pineapple costume

easy and cheap diy pineapple costume

This was seriously the easiest costume I've ever made.  I didn't spend one penny.  And I didn't need to take ten trips to Michael's.  I had all the supplies at home: grocery bag, construction paper, and a headband.

diy ramen noodle costume for halloween

Last year a monstrous child size AT-AT, a.k.a Imperial Walker came trick-or-treating at our door step on all fours. And I went, "WHAT THAAA!!!!" I was in awe and envy that this mommy neighbor could attempt such greatness.  Yes, I had a mommy crush for a while.  But it was this kind of inspiration I needed to create my own version of a mini WHAT THAAA!!! in my diy ramen costume.

DIY mini cereal box Halloween treats

Since I don't throw big birthday parties for the kids anymore, I jump at the chance to make favors anytime I can.  This year third graders are getting Cereal Killer Halloween favors!

Tricksters or treaters

Every year on Halloween the kids go door to door to collect treats for David and I, hopefully sour licorice and chocolate. We dress them up in cute costumes and send them on their way. Before the hard work begins we feed them:

They're full of energy and ready to hit the streets:

This year we had a third trickster dressed as the mouse that makes everyone feel like their in the happiest place on earth:

Our plan worked because we got our sour licorice and tons of chocolate, the brand name ones, not the cheap, generic ones that we hand out. The kids have no problem giving everything over to us probably because they think we live in a sugar free home. Just wondering how long it will take them to realize that their earnings will be theres for the taking.

Truman Le Pew

I've been planning Halloween for the last 2 months in preparation for Truman's costume. 2 months ago he told me he wanted to dress up as Captain Feathersword from The Wiggles. 1 month ago he still said Captain Feathersword and up until a few weeks before Halloween his mind hadn't changed, "Captain Feathersword"! I searched the internet for this hard-to-find pirate costume and even thought about making the darn thing myself.

It made me realize that Truman is growing up so fast, learning to be his own person with real thoughts and opinions. I soon made the decision to nix Captain Feathersword and buy him a padded, fleece skunk costume just like his plush dragon costume last year.

Is it selfish on my part to keep him cute and cuddly as long as I can? A pirate costume is timeless and can be put on at any age. In the end, Truman was so excited to wear the Le Pew costume since he would be going trick-or-treating for the first time in our neighborhood...he totally forgot about Captain "Who".
Truman will be 3 years old next year which probably means I only have one more Halloween until he wants to be some cool super hero or action figure. At least I'm reassured knowing these costumes will reappear for the next couple of years with baby #2. I will keep my babies cute and cuddly for as long as they let me and no matter how old they get they will always be my Lil Stinkers.

Pumpkinmania

It's pumpkin season which means harvest festivals, pumpkin pickings, and countdown to Halloween. I love this time of year when people are cheery and family get togethers are more frequent. We had a fun afternoon at the Farmers Market with the whole family and took a rare photo of the Alex, Chan, and Hui men (Jason was missed).
